A few minutes later and the current team would finally respond with a score of their own. An 8-man pic off the scrum allowed the current Broncos inside the 22-meter line where a few consecutive forward picks would get them about 10 meters out from scoring. Finally getting the ball wide to the backline, it was Freshman fly-half Faith Harlan who would expose a gap in the defense to get it down for her team’s first score. A made conversion by captain Mariela Murillo 17’ brought the score to 14-7.
The final five minutes of the half saw both teams exchange tries. First it was the alumni who extended their lead with some powerful running from both the forwards and the backs, before Denise Brooke ’09 finally broke through for the score. With minutes the go it was current team captain Michelle Coleman ’18 who took the ball wide around the defense to score her teams 2nd try of the game and bring the score at halftime to 19-12.
The 2nd half started with some back and forth play that saw both teams put together multiple good phases of offense and defense. Finally, ten minutes in it was the current BRUWS who would score their 3rd try of the game as they got the ball wide off a lineout and into the hands of Senior winger Taylor Groves ’17, who won a footrace with the defense to put down the first try of her career. With the score now close at 19-17 it was the alumni who were determined to show off the experience as they looked to put the game away. With a few minutes left in the game it was Claire McCaleb again who would finish the game just like she started it. Scoring another try to close out the game gave the Alumni a 26-17 win it what was a wonderful game.
